Residential Renovation
San Francisco, CA 2006
This renovation of an existing live / work space employs a series of programmatic switches: live:work, open:closed, man:machine, dog:no dogreinforcing the temporal flux of program and use. The design pares back the existing finishes to expose the building's original materiality of concrete perimeter walls and structural wood framing. New interior enclosure is minimized, limited to office and bathroom uses. The constructional reality of the exposed warehouse framing is extended into a language of open framed walls with glass, plywood and sheetrock skins.
