New Private Residence
Orinda, CA 2006

The Orinda House is a prototypical courtyard house posited on a sloping site. The result is a house that steps gracefully down the hillside. The bedroom wings are tucked under the primary living areas, creating an elevated roof-top terrace protected on two sides and focused towards a view of the distant ridgeline.

A house for a glazier and his family, there are ample windows and large sliding glass doors facing onto the terrace addressing the views.  In contrast, the outer walls are primarily cast-in-place concrete, referencing the solid exterior and inner domestic sanctuary of the courtyard precedent.
